Each season has its charm. Of course, it depends on where one lives as to the expectations and variety of environments. In the northeast of North America, we experience very distinct seasons. In autumn we enjoy the vivid colors all around us, the crisp evenings, and a sense of purpose and focus. A serious new season for the arts.
Winter brings the holidays and New Year. We are surrounded by conviviality and joyful gatherings. We prepare for the cold and the snow, with both awe and dread. Spring transitions us from the drab of late winter into fresh bright green and warm-ish days with promise of lasting sunlight and moderation. Are you ready for summer. A sense of release and frivolity for many, especially early summer. In our area, there are lawn concerts at amphitheaters and theatrical performances in the parks, sidewalk cafes and dinner alfresco.
From a Buddhist perspective we emphasize the Middle Way, moderation, equanimity and a balance in our lives and in our full conscious participation in the natural world in which we are immersed. We spend a lot of time being aware of dukkha, discontentedness and delusion. To be sure if we are to follow the Middle Way, equanimity, etc. We must spend at least as much time experiencing the sacred and exquisiteness around us.
Have a very happy summer. You deserve it. It’s the Buddhist thing to do.
